finally

got my first hate mail! oh wait - there was one email WAY back when i first started playing music complaining that there were no live shots on my website and i probably didn't know how to play live...hahahhaha...that's a funny one. i almost forgot.

but anyway - someone on myspace wrote that people didn't like my music and they were just looking at my profile because i was good looking. at first i was like "hmm...this sucks! why is this person so mean? why did he write that?" and then i was like "YES!!! this is AWESOME! my whole life i've had to rely upon my talent and personality to validate me and now someone is saying i'm PRETTY! yay!"

and the fact that someone actually took the time to hate on me is kinda flattering, too...i usually just pass right by music that sucks. (except for brittney, cuz she's kinda fun to make fun of)

oh - and the person who wrote it said he's a musician (jealous much?) - HAHA - i wonder if he's any good...;) the world will probably never know....

morning...

hey all!

i'm loving this past week...myspace has taken over my life - answering 100's of messages and adding new people all day long...it's kinda nutty. in the best way, of course. i really like this phase of things - it's cool being super busy and watching things take off but still being able to communicate directly with people who write to me. i know that it will have to end eventually, as more people keep writing and my computer time becomes less available, but i'll enjoy it while it lasts...

it's like halloween up here...

ever seen a tarantula outside of a pet store? ever seen your dog run into the house with one in its mouth?

ya...just happened. for real. i'm not even kidding. the thing was as big as my hand. it was dead when elliott ran in with it - but it was a freaking tarantula. whoa. that was some scary shit. los angeles is like wild f*cking kingdom. damn.

on another note - i've decided to end all negative blogging. unless it's another critique of 50 cent's lyrics. my friend tasneem and i were talking about negative blogging and i decided it does no good. just assume that things are difficult from time to time. i'm not gonna subject you all to the nasty details. imma keep this sh*t on the positive tip.

it has been a rough adjustment for me, coming back from the tour...things are going really well and that just means that everything i do is now on display under what seems like a very large microscope...funny how much more pressure there is once people are really interested in what you're doing...seems like it should be some other way. it's not. but that's ok - i can handle the heat.

just found out that myspace wants to feature me again! that's beyond cool. i had no idea they could do that. i guess "they" can do whatever they want. it's their website. so ya - myspace and "they" - you RULE!!!

i'm booking a HUGE tour on my own. going across the country and back, and i'm aiming for something like 38 dates - it's kind of insane - but i've booked some great rooms so far - gypsy tea room in dallas and exit in in nashville - and there are so many more that i'm waiting to confirm - places i've always wanted to play. and they're even paying me, which is cool as hell. playing some of the same places i played on the tyler tour, too. will be fun to revisit those cities and see everyone i met last month!

ok - i'm feeling good, so i'm gonna go to sleep now.

pumpkin

just looked down at the outfit i'm wearing and realized i look like a big pumpkin. found a sweater in closet at my mom and dad's - anyone know how that goes? you move out and take the clothing you actually wear, leaving behind the stuff you can't quite bear to part with but will probably never wear again...or SHOULD never wear again...but then you somehow end up wearing it because you come home and it's cold and the only sweater around is the one you should have donated to good will 10 years ago but it somehow managed to stay in your closet and avoid the big garbage bag full of icky clothes that sits in the garage for the next 5 years until someone decides to go to the donation box...whew...that was a long one. so ya - i'm in orange. and my pants are black. and it looks like halloween up in this piece.

i'm going back to my car in st. louis tomorrow. hopefully it will be right where i left it at the airport on july 2. driving to phoenix for the final tyler headline show...i'm happy that at least one of the dates was salvaged.

and i'm planning a tour for mid-september.

maybe some other cities, too...i have some phone calls made and emails sent and hopefully will have dates booked sometime soon. i have big plans for this little tour.

OH - big show coming up - hotel cafe, friday, july 22 @ 11pm. come if you can...come early, though, because i think it will sell out. and so will i.

bittersweet

kinda sad news - the rest of the tyler tour has been canceled - he's opening for hilary duff which is great news for him but really kinda scary to me - the fact that hilary duff is selling out arenas is mindblowing. i'm not gonna get into it too much, and i'm really happy for tyler, but what is the state of the industry when someone like hilary duff is selling tens of thousands of $50 tickets...it's really scary. i guess there will always be "artists" like that...um...anyway...

it's my blog, dammit, and i'll say what i wanna say.

ya - i know the industry is about money and teen idols sell tickets and so why not slap their faces and some of their "singing" on cds and peddle them to kids too young to know any better...i'm glad that tyler will have the chance to maybe show some of these kids what a real musician is like. whatever. and i hope it doesn't hurt his credibility because he really is a talented musician.

SO - the good news is, this leaves me more time to rehearse with my band as soon as i get back to la since we have a bunch of stuff coming up. nothing i can talk about at the moment, but stay tuned for lots of news from me in the coming months...

and i have all sorts of tricks up my sleeve which will hopefully enable me to get to your towns...wherever you are...i need to be on the road. after spending this time on tour with tyler, i am more convinced than ever before that i need to be touring. that's where i belong at this stage in my life. so i will work to make it happen. and it will happen.

thank you all for being so wonderful and supportive. i know people say that kind of sh*t all the time, but i really mean it.

road story #1

i'll post em as i remember em...slowly unravelling my twisted mind in order to bring stories to the masses...

so i was driving alone from chicago to johnson city, TN for a show on the evening of june 24. tyler and the guys had flown to sacramento for a radio show, patrick was taking the van to atlanta, and there i was, somewhere in indiana. i stopped to get gas and realized i was really hungry and way out in the middle of nowhere, so i figured my best bet was to get something quick at the gas station convenience store.

i walked in and everyone stared at me like i was some kind of a freak, which i'm totally used to whenever i go anywhere that isn't nyc or los angeles, so i continued to look around. the clerk behind the counter - a real inbred geeky looking guy - was especially freaked out by me. but that might have been because i was a girl. i don't know.

at any rate - i figured my healthiest bet was a fun-pack of little cereal boxes and a bottle of milk.

i walked up to the counter and the guy timidly rang up my sale...the total came to $6.66 - i kid you not...

HIM: "um...six *voice cracking a bit* sixty...six..."
ME: "WELL! how bout that...*big big toothy smile and a wink*"

and so ends your first road story...stay tuned for more as my brain defrosts.

second thoughts...

so you know i wanted to do it for you guys - really, i did - and i even went and took the personality test...it was LONG. and i did it. for you.

but when i actually thought about strange lonely men emailing me i started to feel all icky inside. i don't think i really want to invite that into my life. i'm sorry. and i also felt kinda mean, since i wasn't serious about it and only wanted to be able to provide amusement for y'all.

it was a funny idea though, i think...and i still kinda wanna do it...but i don't think it's a good idea. oh well.

i'll think of other ways to amuse you.

so i just parted ways with the boys for a few days...chillin at my mom and dad's house in upstate new york...not much to do up here and right now that's about all i can handle. i LOVE touring, but it's kinda rough, especially when i'm hauling my own gear, playing, and then selling my own merchandise...i'd say i'm about ready for that so-called posse i hear so much about. maybe i'll hold auditions for an entourage when i get back to LA.

anyway - i was watching tv tonight and i saw a commercial for this online dating service. eharmony.com. you do a personality profile and then they match you with people.

and, being the twisted individual that i am, i thought to myself "hey - how funny would it be to do this and document the whole thing on my blog?!?"

or maybe i'm having a moment of insanity that should be put in check. but really - i mean - so i pay $40 or something - then i get to provide you all with hours of amusement...i'll post everything - from the personality profile to the results...i won't post any real peoples' names or photos - just the information i receive. is this evil? morally wrong? hmm...do i care?

it's all in the name of good entertainment, right?
