wow - the mississippi river is huge..."rock island" i thought "how can there be an island in western illinois?"
foolish me...it's an island alright...and a really cool one.
i went to the state of michigan for the first time two days ago. got stuck in the worst traffic jam ever right outside detroit and had over an hour to sit and look at green road signs with the name of my favorite city...got to contemplate the past...always a favorite...
i hadn't been to michigan since i left under pretty awful terms many years ago...so naturally i was a bit nervous about my return. i've never played there - just avoided it completely on past tours - but a man named mario contacted me and asked if i would play his coffeehouse in grand rapids...
thank you mario for the new associations with my old haunt...still haven't been back to ann arbor or detroit, but that might be a while still. it's amazing when complete strangers show you the kind of hospitality you only imagine exists. this keeps happening to me and it always amazes me. every time.
so now i'm in the final week of the tour. really looking forward to my return to LA...though i do not have a home at the moment, so i'll be couch surfing while i find a new place to live. i feel so fortunate this morning. and my dog has now seen more cities than most people in the world.
i'll leave you to contemplate that for a while...
xoxo
