emotion

i feel so much emotion about the new tracks that paul (my producer) just produced. i'm seriously blown away and so grateful that this has happened. we've been working for 2 1/2 years together and i feel like he has suddenly tapped into the core of the songs, their reason for existance, the full realization of everything that i have wanted them to be...i listen to "i'm happy" and the music so completely sums up the song - all the emotion behind it - it all comes through now.

this is a strange journey. we've both been through so much in the last three years, in so many ways....and we have stuck it out and continued to believe that we were on the right path. and now, hearing these tracks, hearing what my album will sound like, feeling the power of the songs and the production - it's overwhelming to me. i feel like another corner has been turned and we're one step further along this path. and i feel so completely confident stepping in that direction. it's a wonderful feeling.

i'm the freak at the post office

i held up the line today while i explained the "dirty money" situation to the clerk and asked her to please find a rubber glove before handling it.....if you don't know what i'm talking about, see the blog below.

the things we do...

...to make music profitable...trying to figure that out these days...

decided to go to the venice boardwalk and play my guitar for the people. it was really nice to make music all by myself, alone on the boardwalk, close my eyes, open my eyes, watch people walk by, smile, whatever - and i actually made quite a nice amount of money for the time i stood out there.

so from here on out until i no longer want to be there, you will find me on the boardwalk a few days a week, playing the same songs on guitar over and over again...hehe...can't figure out a reasonable way to bring my piano - that would involve way too much equipment - the guitar is easy - so i'll learn some covers from time to time, as well...stop by and see me if you feel so inclined. not that i will tell you where i'll be or when i'll be there, but perhaps our paths will cross.

and now for the fun part of this blog entry.

one of my customers was a homeless-looking man in colorful clothing. he was really nice. had two dogs who were also dressed in colorful clothing. he was wearing pink UGG boots - those sheepskin things - you know, the ones that people wear barefoot, the ones that make your feet all sweaty...ya, those.

so he pulled off his right boot and began digging through it...for money to pay me...yup. 5 sweaty, crumpled dollar bills ended up in my guitar case. seriously.

they are now inside the rubber glove that i used to pick them up, sitting in my car, untouched.

lovely.

well...

i've been a terrible blogger lately. i know. it's that damned myspace. seems to have taken the place of so many blogs and message boards. should i try to keep this blog going? is there any point now that myspace has taken over? oh, the questions that keep me awake at night.

oh - i have an idea. this will be the personal blog and myspace will be all about business. there. problem solved.

so i just got back from family vacation. we went on a cruise to mexico. about the most american thing one can do. it was wonderful to be with my family, but i can't say that i feel much connection with the "cruisers" of the world.

one highlight was definitely the final night's show...big vegas style productions with dancers...they auditioned people from the ship to play the parts of various famous american singers...and yes, i was dressed as madonna and sang "like a virgin." but my mic didn't work. so i had to lip synch to an awful sounding back up track that the sound guy plugged in once he became aware of my technical difficulties. i'm sure it's not the first time madonna lip synched...hehe...but it was a big bummer. they had me redo it at the end after all the people in the audience left, for the dvd that we all got to take with us. but it was kind of too late - the moment had passed. ,y performance was not as energetic as the original lip synched performance. and it's definitely bizarre. i have no doubt that this little moment of absurdity will somehow end up on the internet at some point...it's only a matter of time. and when it does, well, not much to do about that, i guess! who knows - maybe i'll even be the one to post it. but for now i prefer to sit alone with my humiliation and memory of the curly brown wig. and long pink ruffled skirt. and the corset that was way too big and looked like armour.

hmm...

reminds me of my 6th grade talent show. i sang "get into the groove." i've come full circle. yikes.

so anyway - there you have it. i'm blogging again, ok? fell off the wagon for a bit and now i'm back.
